I've been to Ally Pally Ice Rink and it's OK.
But Somerset House is magical (although expensive!), especially if you go skating in the evening when they light torches on the edge of the ice rink.

Also, for those working in the City, you can spend your lunch hour at the Broadgate Ice Rink near Liverpool Street Station. I used to go there as well when I worked in an office on the edge of the City. www.broadgateice.co.uk/index.htmI discovered this ice rink one evening in my first winter here when I was out 'discovering' different areas of London. I thought it looked wonderful with all those lights etc. And than for many, many years I couldn't find it again. Imagine my surprise when one lunch-time I stumbled upon it again! It was a great surprise. The attached web link doesn't do it justice, really. You've got to see it.
