Davor Suker voted Croatia's best soccer player of the past 50 years Associated Press Jul. 10, 2003 11:40 a.m.
ZAGREB, Croatia (AP)— Davor Suker, the top scorer in the 1998 World Cup, was declared Thursday the best Croatian soccer player of the past 50 years. The selection for the best player in 1954-2003 was carried out by the Croatian soccer federation and the leading sports daily, Sportske Novosti. Suker will be honored at a ceremony on Friday.
Suker, a veteran player at 35, is a symbol of Croatian soccer. His six goals at the 1998 World Cup in France earned him the Golden Boot award and helped his team reach the semifinals in its World Cup debut, stunning the world.
Suker again played for Croatia at the 2002 World Cup, but the team was eliminated in the first round.
Suker got his start on a small Croatian team, Osijek, in 1984. Later, he gained international acclaim while playing for Spanish clubs Seville and Real Madrid in 1992-1999.
He also played in the English Premier League for Arsenal and West Ham and is currently with Germany's 1860 Munich.

It should've been Boban... his Kung Fu kicking should've got him a few votes alone Oh well, the judges have decided....

yer right it should have been Boban.............. maybe losing the ball in the crucial moments in the semi final against France counted against him

You're not the only one.
But if it was not for Boban's skill and creativity Croatia would not have got so far in the 98 World Cup. He was the midfield mastermind for Croatia.
Anyway Suker is not a bad choice who has one of the best goal scoring records at International level, which I suppose stands out more.

Sorry for bringing up bad memories........ although there were many more good ones.
Boban is the Pope of Croatian Football.......he did at the top for a long time (Davor was only at Real for about 3 seasons). Also Boban quit at the top of his game, Davor has just gone deeper and deeper on the football pitch as time has gone on.
Plus Suker played for Arsenal and West Ham and I'm a Chelsea supporter
