Lived in England for 10 yrs and I'm married to an Englishman. They are beyond cheap, I learned that my hospitality is never reciprocated. I've actual had an English person invite me to there house, proceed to eat and tell me they don't have enough to share, these people were not poor. The middle class are the worst. They look down on the working class, who I think are more generous and look up to the upperclassmen who are all arrogant pricks. If one more English tosser says Americans don't get irony I'm going to punch them in their crooked teeth. Yes we get it and guess what we are just as smart and way more civilized then any of the English not a very nice persons I dealt with. Never ever pick up the bill for an English person thinking oh they'll get me next time, you'll be waiting song time. It's been very difficult being married to one, not for him because I've fixed all the things that needed fixing(including teeth). But all his friends and family make me sick. They come stay in my home never bring anything or even take you out for a meal to show thanks. I've had to change how I do things, now I throw sheets on a deflated air mattress and let them sort themselves out. The amount of time I spent preparing their rooms before resulted in them not even buying me a drink st the pub. I'm not the only non English married to English who feels that way. Every woman I befriended in London married to an English gent agrees must are mannerless pigs
