A defining moment in European and transatlantic resilience: Croatian perspectives
Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, the President of the Republic of Croatia, will speak at LSEE on Tuesday, 11 October. The event is free and open to all but registration is required. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović was elected President of the Republic of Croatia on 11 January 2015. She is a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and Head of the State Delegation for Negotiations on the Accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union, from which positions she led Croatia on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration. In 2008, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović became Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the United States of America. In 2011, she was appointed NATO Assistant Secretary-General for Public Diplomacy, position she held until 2014, as the first woman Assistant Secretary-General ever in the history of NATO and the highest ranking woman in NATO.
She was born 29 April 1968 in Rijeka, and completed secondary school in New Mexico, United States of America. She holds degrees from the University of Zagreb and the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna. She was also a Fulbright scholar at George Washington University and a Lukšić Fellow in Senior Managers in Government Executive Program at the J.F.K. School of Government at Harvard. She is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese and has some command of Italian, French and German.
The event will be chaired by Professor Kevin Featherstone, Head of the European Institute, LSE.

Guests should arrive at the venue 10 minutes before the start of the lecture.
The talk starts at 19:00 sharp and will be followed by Q&As. The event finishes at 20:00.

Dr Iva Tomić holds a tenure-track affiliation as a Research Associate at the Institute of Economics, Zagreb in Croatia. She was awarded a PhD degree in Economics from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2013. Her main research interests are labour economics, applied microeconomics and public finances. During her visit at LSEE she will be working on youth unemployment issues in European countries, with a special emphasis on the Croatian case and its cross comparison with other Southern European countries.
