Hi all,
I am an Englishman married 26 years to a Croat from Vinkovci. Now the kids have grown up we are seriously considering leaving London to live in our place near Zadar.
Can anybody please tell me the correct procedure / which visa and other legal stuff so that I can legally live / work in Croatia with my wife. I assume I have certain rights through marriage but would appreciate some good advice please.
Thanks
Tony

Slaant, First of all, if you read Hemp's post before it was deleted - I apologize for his rant. Second, as this is a forum for Croats in the UK, we may not be the best group to ask - maybe our "sister" forum Visit Croatia Forum visitcroatia.proboards.com/index.cgi?

you can either apply for a student visa or you will need a valid certificate of sponsorship (your employer must be able to show that no croats were available for the job, if no applicants from nearby countries are suitable for the job, then EU citizens will be taken into account). you can come here and try to work illegally but you will be sent you back to your country sooner than you would expect. if you apply for a student visa you must prove that you have enough funds to live here for the entire lenght of your stay (8,000kn/month in zagreb, 6,000kn elsewhere) without the aid of public funds.
if you come to croatia as a skilled/higly skilled worker you will also need to be able to speak croatian fluently (for a list of approved language tests visit http://www.hvatskizadosadnestrance.hr) and a minimum of 28,000kn for a start.
oh, wait. you married a croatian citizen. you'll be granted the right to live in the country.

moderator - thank you for the advice. i will post there. thanks for also deleting hemp's post - quite unnecessary, rude and full of stupid assumptions.
mirko - hvala za tvoje poruka. ja nisam 'moran' ako hemp kaja i govorim dosta jezika (pivo, sladoled, ligne na zaru ..... all the good stuff!) ali ne pisam dobro ... so it was easier to write in english!
brenculja - puno hvala

Hi Slaant, expect lots of paperwork to be filled in and also lots of stamps on that paperwork.
I wish you all the best and please let us know how you get on. It would be interesting to know, as we are planning to go back to live in Croatia one day. (My husband is English).

Slaant
A word of advice:
Live and work in Britain and holiday in Croatia. Not the other way around.

Anyway ....
Tony, good luck to you!
My mother in law spent 30 years in Croatia, the best 30 years she ever had.

Tony, Good luck with everything! I hope you can enjoy the good sides of Croatia and ignore the bad ones (you already 'met' Hemp, It's hard to meet any people worse than him, so you're ready...
Hemp - get a life. Preferably FAR away from the internet and from this board.
People who let you in UK (actually, let you out of your birthplace) made a mistake of their lives.
